La musique de Seizo AZUMA, caractérisée par des couleurs variées nées d’une approche sincère et par une force de vie débordante, connaît un succès grandissant ces dernières années.

Seizo AZUMA est né en 1962. Après des études au lycée affilié du Tokyo College of Music, il entre dans cette même université et étudie auprès de Mme Aiko Iguchi, M. Kazuhiko Nakajima, M. Minoru Nojima et Mme Haruko Kataoka.

En 1983, il remporte le premier prix à la Music Competition of Japan (52ème édition). A la fin de ses études, il part se perfectionner au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris grâce à une bourse du gouvernement français. Après avoir été distingué dans de nombreux concours (Japan International Music Competition, Concours musical international de Montréal, Robert Casadesus International Piano Competition (Cleveland), etc.), il commence sa carrière de concertiste.

Seizo AZUMA a donné de nombreux récitals et joué avec les plus grands orchestres en Europe, en Amérique du Nord, etc. Au Japon, il est invité comme soliste par de nombreux orchestres, à commencer par le NHK Symphony Orchestra. En 1988, il s’est vu décerner le prix de la Frédéric Chopin Society of Japan (24ème édition). En parallèle à son activité de soliste, il se passionne également pour la musique de chambre et développe de superbes collaborations avec de grands musiciens, en particulier au sein du Bois Vert Trio.

Entre 2008 et 2012, il a donné un total de 8 concerts dans le cadre de la série « Intégrale des sonates pour piano de Beethoven » organisée à la Maison des festivals de Miharu « Mahora », remportant un grand succès. En 2012, Seizo AZUMA a été choisi comme membre du jury du Concours international de musique de Genève.

Seizo AZUMA a publié de nombreux CD, qui ont tous eu un grand succès : « Sonates “Pathétique” et “Les Adieux” de Beethoven », « Oeuvres célèbres de Liszt - La Campanella, etc. », coffret des enregistrements live de la série de concerts « Intégrale des sonates pour piano de Beethoven » (9 CD), etc. Il a également enregistré avec de nombreux artistes, à commencer par le CD « Teiko Maehashi - 100 oeuvres célèbres pour violon ».

En parallèle à son activité de concertiste, Seizo AZUMA se consacre avec passion à l’enseignement. Il est actuellement professeur à l’Université des Arts de Tokyo (Geidai), professeur invité au Tokyo College of Music et professeur à l’International Academy of the Suzuki Method. Il est également membre du conseil d’administration de la Frédéric Chopin Society of Japan.

Born in 1962, Seizo Azuma began to study the Piano under Haruko Kataoka from the Suzuki Method. He entered Tokyo College of Music after graduating from Tokyo College of Music high school, where he studied under Aiko Iguchi, Minoru Nojima and Kazuhiko Nakajima. He went on to study under J. Rouvier and J.C. Pennetier at Conservatoire de Paris on the French government scholarship, after taking the first prize at The Music Competition Japan in 1983. He won various international competitions such as The Japan International Musical Competition, The Montreal International Musical Competition, The Casadesus Competition, The International Piano Competition Ettore Pozzoli, then started to pursue his career.

Azuma has given recitals and performed with orchestras in Europe, North America and China. Since his orchestra debut came in 1993 with the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, he performed with the major orchestras of Japan, including NHK Symphony Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Osaka Century Symphony Orchestra, Sendai Philharmonic Orchestra, Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra, Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa. In 1998, he was awarded the 24th Frederic Chopin Society of Japan Prize by performing “24 Preludes”. Being highly-motivated in chamber music, his works in “Bois Vert Trio” organized with Akihiro Miura, a concertmaster of Tokyo Philharmonic and Ryoichi Fujimori, a principal cellist of NHK Symphony Orchestra, and performing with different soloists. His diligent work, the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas Cycle-Concerts were held at Mahora Hall in Miharu town Fukushima from 2008 to 2012. He sat on a jury of The Geneva International Music Competition in 2012.

Azuma has released many CDs with very good reputation; “Pathétique / Das Lebewohl” and “La Campanella”, “The live recordings of the complete Beethoven Piano Sonatas Cycle-Concerts”. He contributes his energy to teach younger people as a professor of Tokyo University of The Arts, also has classes at International Suzuki Method Academy and Tokyo College of Music. He is a member of an executive board of The Frederic Chopin Society of Japan. Azuma is held as one of the most important pianists in Japan.

真摯なアプローチから生まれる多彩な音色と、溢れる生命力によって紡がれる東 誠三の音楽は、近年益々その評価を高めている。 1962 年生まれ。東京音楽大学付属高校から東京音楽大学に進み、井口愛子、中島和彦、野島稔、片岡ハルコの各氏に師事。 1983 年、第52回日本音楽コンクール第1 位。 同校卒業と同時に、フランス政府給費留学生としてパリ国立高等音楽院に留学。 日本国際、モントリオール（カナダ）、カサドシュ（アメリカ）など、数多くの国際コンクールに入賞し、演奏活動に入る。

これまでに、ヨーロッパ、北米などでリサイタル、オーケストラと共演し、国内ではＮ響をはじめ、各地の主要オーケストラにソリストとして招かれている。1998 年には、第24 回ショパン協会賞を受賞。ソロ活動と共に室内楽にも強い意欲を示し、「 ボア・ヴェール・トリオ」での活動をはじめ、 多くのトップソリストたちと絶妙なコラボレーションを聴かせている。 2008 年～12 年には、全8 回のベートーヴェン：ピアノ・ソナタ全曲演奏会が三春交流館「まほら」にて開催され、好評を博した。2012 年には、ジュネーヴ国際音楽コンクール・ピアノ部門の審査員を務めた。CDは「ベートーヴェン：悲愴＆告別ソナタ」、｢ラ・カンパネラ～リスト名曲集｣、ベートーヴェン：ピアノ・ソナタ全曲演奏会シリーズのライブ録音全9 集等、これまでに多数リリース。いずれも高い評価を受けている。また、「前橋汀子～ヴァイオリン名曲100 選」をはじめ、共演盤も数多い。

現在、活発な演奏活動と共に、東京藝術大学教授、東京音楽大学非常勤講師、国際スズキ・メソード音楽院教授として後進の指導も行っている。日本ショパン協会理事。
