Stephan Picard est né en 1960 à Barcelone (Espagne) dans une famille germano-française. De retour en Allemagne il étudie avec S. Gawriloff à Essen. S. Gheorghiu et R. Nodel ont été ses professeurs à Bucarest (Roumanie) et Mannheim (Allemagne). En 1984, il a remporté le Concours International de Violon Maria Canals de Barcelone et le Concours National de Musique en Allemagne. Il se lance dès lors dans une carrière internationale et joue régulièrement comme soliste avec des orchestres symphoniques réputés, ainsi que dans des formations de musique de chambre, notamment le Michelangelo Quartet et le Mendelssohn Trio Berlin. Il participe à des festivals internationaux prestigieux. Depuis 1995, Stephan Picard occupe le poste de professeur à la prestigieuse Académie de Musique « Hans Eisler » à Berlin.

Stephan Picard was born in 1960 in Barcelona (Spain) into a German-French family. Moving back to Germany, he began violin lessons at the age of 10 and soon was studying with Saschko Gawriloff in Essen. Stefan Gheorghiu and Roman Nodel were his teachers in Bucharest (Roumania) and Mannheim (Germany).

In 1984 he won the International Maria Canals Violin Competition of Barcelona and the German National Music Competition and has since developed an extensive international career. He appears regularly as a soloist with major symphony and chamber orchestras, and participates in prestigious international festivals. He is a member of the Michelangelo Quartet with Mihaela Martin, Nobuko Imai and Frans Helmerson and as well as the Mendelssohn Trio Berlin. In 2007 he gives concerts and masterclasses in Europe as well as in Japan, USA, South America and New Zealand.


Since 1995 Stephan Picard has served as professor at the highly acclaimed Academy of Music „Hanns Eisler“ in Berlin. His students got positions in major symphony orchestras and won prices in many international competions like the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition of Belgium in Brussels and the Geneva international music competition
