Il y a peu d'artistes tchèques qui, dans leur domaine, atteignent comme la harpiste Jana Boušková une telle réputation au niveau mondial et représentent leur pays d'une manière exceptionnelle. Le célèbre violoniste Mstislav Rostropovitch a personnellement demandé un contact après l'avoir entendue à la radio et joua en première avec elle l'œuvre de Ravi Shankar au Festival d'Évian. Le professeur américain de réputation mondiale, madame Susan McDonald, estima Jana Boušková comme étant le talent du siècle ; cette opinion est partagée par la critique étrangère.
Jana Boušková, grâce à ses nets succès artistiques, est rapidement devenue une harpiste recherchée par les scènes renommées, non seulement en solo mais aussi dans des conditions plus modestes avec des interprètes tels Maxim Vengerov, Iouri Bachmet, Patrick Gallois, Jiří Bárta, Christian Tetzlaff, Sharon Kam et même Mstislav Rostropovitch déjà évoqué.
Jana Boušková a fait ses études au Conservatoire de Prague et ensuite à l'Université d'Ostrava dans la classe de sa mère, madame Libuše Váchalová, avant de continuer auprès de madame Susan McDonald à la renommée Indiana University.
Jana Boušková est jusqu'à présent la seule harpiste de République tchèque qui ait gagné le plus important et le plus reconnu des concours de harpe au monde. Elle a obtenu ce prix aux États-Unis en 1992. Ensuite, la même année, seulement quatre mois plus tôt, elle a obtenu un second prix en Israël lors d’un autre concours jouissant de la plus haute tradition : International Harp Contest in Israël ; elle est de même la seule harpiste tchèque qui ait été invitée à ce concours. Parmi les autres prix, citons la victoire au Concours International de Musique de Chambre à Paris et au Torneo Internazionale di Musica en Italie. Ses succès exceptionnels en concert et son apport au développement de la harpe lui ont apporté des récompenses en Suisse et le prix de lauréate au Festival Juventus en France. En République tchèque, elle a obtenu le prix Talent de l'année 1996, le titre de l’une des dix plus remarquables femmes de République tchèque, de première interprète de musique classique, ainsi que le titre "Lady Pro", qui lui fut remis au Château de Prague en présence du Président de la République Václav Klaus.
Jana Boušková se produit régulièrement en solo ou avec des ensembles de chambre sur les plus importantes scènes et dans les festivals du pays et de l'étranger. Citons entre autres ses récitals à l'Alice Tully Hall – Lincoln Center (New York), au Théâtre du Châtelet à Paris, au Musikverein de Vienne, au festival Printemps de Prague et au Berliner Festtage, la salle du Théâtre Mariinsky de Saint Petersburg... Elle a également participé au concert de gala pour le 50e anniversaire de Iouri Bachmet à Moscou en compagnie de maintes autres artistes de renommée mondiale et à une grande tournée en Israël et en Europe avec le violoniste Maxim Vengerov, durant laquelle ils ont exécuté la première de la composition "Maximum" de Benjamin Ioussoupov pour quatre instruments solo et orchestre.
Elle coopère aussi en concerts de musique chambre avec de nombreux excellents interprètes au festival Spannungen en Allemagne, au Parry Sound en Ontario, au Festival des Lauréats Juventus à Cambrai ou à l'Elba Isola Musicale d ́Europa, au Théâtre de la Ville avec les flûtistes Emmanuel Pahud et Mathieu Defour et la harpiste Marie- Pierre Langlamet, ou encore une grande tournée en Allemagne avec le flûtiste Patrick Gallois. Elle intervient également comme soliste de grands orchestres tels la Philharmonie tchèque, la Philharmonie de Budapest, la Philharmonie de Stuttgart, l'Orchestre symphonique de Lucerne, la Philharmonie de chambre de Cologne, la Chicago Sinfonietta, l'Amsterdam Sinfonietta, l'Israël Philharmonic Orchestra, le MDR Symphonieorchester de Leipzig, le Tokyo Chamber Orchestra ou PKF – Prague Philharmonia). Par aillleurs, elle s'est produite au Carnegie Hall de New York, aux Philharmonies de Berlin et de Cologne, au Suntory Hall à Tokio, au Gewandhaus de Leipzig, au Symphony Center de Chicago, au Concertgebouw d'Amsterdam, au Rudolfinum de Prague et dans bien d'autres encore.
En-dehors de ses activités de soliste, Jana Boušková exerce une carrière pédagogique. Elle enseigne dans des écoles supérieures – au Conservatoire royal
de Bruxelles/Koninkljik Conservatorium Brussels, au Royal College of Music de Londres et est aussi maître de conférences à la Faculté de Musique de l'Académie des Arts musicaux de Prague. Depuis 2005, elle est également harpiste solo de la Philharmonie tchèque. Jana Boušková est régulièrement invitée à se produire aux congrès et symposiums mondiaux, à participer comme membre du jury aux concours internationaux de harpe aux États-Unis, en France, en Israël, en Corée du Sud, en Russie et en Italie ; de même, elle est invitée comme pédagogue dans les cours de maîtrise du monde entier. Elle a exercé occasionnellement comme pédagogue à de prestigieuses hautes écoles : Indiana University aux États-Unis et à la Haute École de Musique de Genève. En 1999, elle fut directrice artistique du VIIe Congrès mondial de Harpe à Prague. Depuis 2000, elle est membre du Conseil artistique de l'Académie des Arts musicaux de Prague.
Jana Boušková a enregistré plus d'une vingtaine de CD pour des sociétés locales et étrangères, elle réalise des enregistrements pour des chaînes de radio et de télévision. En 2004, la société EMI a édité l'enregistrement de son concert au Festival Spannungen.
Le large répertoire de Jana Boušková comporte des œuvres de tous les temps et de nombreux compositeurs tchèques et étrangers lui ont personnellement adressé des partitions. Citons, entre autres, parmi les premières mondiales, la Sonate pour violoncelle et harpe de Ravi Shankar, le Concert pour flûte, violon, viole, harpe et orchestre de Benjamin Ioussoupov avec le violoniste Maxim Vengerov, le concert pour deux harpes de Jan F. Fischer avec Isabelle Moretti, joué en première au Septième congrès mondial de harpe à Prague en 1999, le Concert pour harpe solo "Praharphona" de Kryštof Mařatka présenté en première à Kiel, en Allemagne, le Concert pour harpe de Lukáš Sommer, le Concert de jazz pour flûte et harpe d'Emil Viklický et maintes autres œuvres en solo ou formation de chambre. Jana Boušková joue d'un instrument de la société américaine Lyon & Healy, instrument qu'elle a gagné pour sa victoire à l'International Harp Competition en 1992 aux États-Unis ; elle est aussi la représentante officielle de cette prestigieuse société.
Parmi les derniers succès de Jana Boušková citons ici ses récitals en solo avec la Philharmonie tchèque (2017 – 2021), avec la Philharmonie de Stuttgart (2017), la première de son propre arrangement de Má Vlast (Ma patrie) de Bedřich Smetana lors de sa tournée solo en République tchèque (2017) et ses multiples participations aux prestigieux festivals Printemps de Prague (2018), Smetanova Litomyšl (2017) ou Festival International de musique Leoš Janáček (2018).
Jana Boušková belongs to the elite category of the world renowned harpists, who are thanks to their distinct artistic qualities invited to the most prestigious world scenes. Furthermore, Jana Boušková as an outstanding personality forms the harp repertoire and technique at the world level. The world acclaimed artist from the USA – prof. Susan McDonald – has qualified Jana Boušková as a talent of the century and the world reviewers rate her performances in similar way and emphasize especially breathtaking technique perfection, brilliant precision, esprit, profoundness, etheric sensitivity and power of her expression. Moreover, Jana Boušková together with her professor and mother Libuše Váchalová are discoverers and authors of some adaptations of distinguished compositions of the Czech repertoire, e.g. Vltava (Moldau) by Bedřich Smetana, or the compositions by Antonín Dvořák or Josef Suk, which considerably enriched the world harp repertoire.
Thanks to her distinct artistic successes Jana Boušková rapidly became a very demanded harpist performing on the prominent stages all over the world as a soloist as well as in cooperation with such interpreters like Maxim Vengerov, Jurij Bashmet, Patrick Gallois, Lars Vogt, Christian Tetzlaff, Sharon Kam or Mstislav Rostropovič. This renowned cello virtuoso asked for the contact on Jana after listening to her performance in radio. Later, Jana premiered with Mstislav Rostropovich the compositions by Ravi Shankar in the frame of the festival in Evian (France) among others.
Jana Boušková regularly performs as a soloist as well as in chamber ensembles at important Czech and world concert venues and festivals. The following performances rank undoubtedly among her most prestigious ones: the solo recitals in Alice Tully Hall – Lincoln Centre (New York), in the Thėâtre Châtelet in Paris, in the Wiener Musikverein, in the frame of the IMF Prague Spring, Berliner Festtage etc. Jana Boušková performed at the Gala concert to the 50th birthday anniversary of Jurij Bashmet in Moscow, she participated in the Grand Tour in Israeli and Europe together with the violinist Maxim Vengerov, with whom she among others performed the world premiere of the composition Maximum by Benjamin Yusupov for four solo instruments and the orchestra. In the field of chamber music she cooperates with a number of outstanding interprets in the frame of the Spannungen Festspiele in Germany, Parry Sound in Ontario, Festival des Laureats Juventus Cambrai or Elba Isola Musical in Europe or Théâtre de la Ville together with flautists Emmanuel Pahud and Mathieu Defour, harpist Marie-Pierre Langlamet, or grand tours with flautist Patrick Gallois. As a soloist in the symphony repertoire she cooperates with such orchestras as the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Budapest Philharmonic, Stuttgart Philharmonic, Luzern Symphony, Prague Philharmonia, Chicago Simfonietta, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, MDR Symphonieorchester Leipzig, Tokyo Chamber Orchestra, Köln Chamber Philharmonic etc. in the prominent concert halls around the world as Carnegie Hall New York, Berlin and Köln Philharmonic, Wiener Musikverein, Suntory Hall in Tokio, n Leipziger Gewandhaus, Symphony Center in Chicago or Concertgebouw v Amsterdam.
Jana Boušková graduated from the Prague Conservatory and Ostrava University where she studied in the class of prof. Libuše Váchalová. She continued studying at the prestigious Indiana University with prof. Susann McDonald. Jana Boušková is the only Czech harpist who won the world’s most important and acknowledged international harp competition – in 1992 in the USA. In the same year she was awarded the 2nd prize in the competition with the oldest tradition in the world in Israel as the only Czech artist to be invited ever. Among other numerous successes let us name victories in Concours International de Musique de Chambre in Paris and in Torneo Internazionale di Musica in Italy. Jana Boušková was honored for outstanding concert successes and contribution to the harp field in Switzerland and is also the laureate of the Juventus Festival in France. In the Czech Republic she was awarded the Prize Talent of the year 1996 and as one of ten most important Czech women and as first interpret of the classical music ever she was awarded the Prize Lady Pro.
Besides the solo career Jana Boušková devotes herself to pedagogical activity and teaches simultaneously on the Royal Academy in Brussels (Koninklijke Conservatorium Brussels) and on Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague. Since 2005 Jana Boušková is a solo harpist of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. She is being regularly invited to participate in world renowned harp congresses and symposiums including International harp competition in the USA, France, Israel and else where and leads masterclasses all over the world. She teaches at prestigious schools including Indiana University in the USA or Haute Ecole de Musique in Geneve. In 1999 she was the artistic director of the 7th World Harp Congress in Prague. Since 2000 she has been a member of the Artistic Board of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra.
Jana Boušková has recorded more than twenty CDs for Czech and international labels, radios and television companies. In 2004 EMI published a recording of her concert in the frame of the German festival Spannungen.
The vast repertoire of Jana Boušková includes compositions of all eras. Numerous Czech and foreign contemporary composers have composed pieces for her. Sonata for cello and harp by Ravi Shankar (with Mstislav Rostropovich), Concerto for flute, harp, viola and orchestra by Benjamin Yusupov (with Maxim Vengerov), Concert for two harps by Jan F. Fischer (with Isabelle Moretti – 7th World Harp Congress in Prague, 1999), Concert for solo Harp Praharphona by Kryštof Mařatka (premiered in Kiel, BDR), Solo Harp Concerto by Lukáš Sommer, Jazz Concerto for flute and harp by Emil Viklický etc. rank among world premieres.
Jana Boušková is the official player of the prestigious Lyon & Healy harp producer and plays the instrument by this US company that she won on the International Harp Competition in 1992 in the USA.
