Invitée chaque année aux principaux festivals internationaux de musique représentant la Corée, l’altiste Soo-Min Lee poursuit une carrière de concertiste très active. Diplômée de l’École des arts Yewon, elle a commencé à se distinguer dans le monde de l’alto en remportant, alors qu’elle était encore élève au Lycée des Arts de Séoul, le premier prix du Concours Dong-A Ilbo, devenant la plus jeune lauréate dans la catégorie alto, ainsi qu’en obtenant des prix dans de nombreux concours prestigieux.
L’année de l’obtention de sa licence à Seoul National University, elle a été sélectionnée comme boursière du DAAD (Office allemand d’échanges universitaires) et s’est rendue en Allemagne. Elle y a étudié auprès de Rainer Moog à la Hochschule für Musik und Tanz de Cologne, où elle a obtenu le diplôme et le diplôme de soliste avec les plus hautes distinctions.
Elle a été invitée à de grands festivals internationaux tels que le Verbier Music Festival en Suisse et le Prussia Cove Music Festival au Royaume-Uni, et a occupé le poste de premier alto solo du Duisburger Philharmoniker / Deutsche Oper am Rhein en Allemagne.
Soo-Min Lee a été invitée à de nombreux festivals majeurs en Corée, dont le Seoul Spring Festival, le Festival International de Musique de Tongyeong, le Jeonju Vivace Festival et le Festival International de Musique de Séoul, où elle se produit aux côtés d’artistes de renommée mondiale.
Elle a participé à l’enregistrement de l’album “DUO” de l’altiste Richard Yongjae O’Neill, publié par Deutsche Grammophon (DG). En particulier, l’œuvre “Viola, Viola” pour deux altos de George Benjamin (ancien compositeur en résidence de l’Orchestre philharmonique de Berlin), incluse dans l’album, a reçu les éloges du compositeur lui-même, qui a salué une interprétation « d’une dynamique exceptionnelle et d’une grande beauté de son ».
En 2018, son premier album solo, enregistré avec la pianiste Hyo-Sun Lim et comprenant notamment des sonates de Vieuxtemps et Clarke, est paru chez DECCA.
Elle a également été très appréciée pour son interprétation de la Symphonie Concertante de Mozart avec la violoniste Suyo Park dans le cadre de l’intégrale des symphonies de Mozart du Korean Chamber Orchestra, dirigée par Ralf Gothóni. Elle est par ailleurs alto solo de l’Orchestre One Korea, dirigé par Myung-Whun Chung.
Soo-Min Lee est également très active en tant que pédagogue. Actuellement elle est professeure associée à Korea National University of Arts et à Hanyang University, et elle consacre également beaucoup d’énergie à la formation de jeunes musiciens à l’Université nationale de Séoul.
Frequently invited to major international music festivals representing Korea, violist Soo-Min Lee continues an active performing career. After graduating from Yewon School, she began to attract attention in the viola world while attending Seoul Arts High School, winning first prize at the Dong-A Ilbo Music Competition as the youngest winner in the viola category, along with prizes at numerous prestigious competitions.
In the year she completed her bachelor’s degree at Seoul National University, she was selected as a scholar of the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) and moved to Germany. She studied with Rainer Moog at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, where she graduated from both the diploma program and the soloist program with highest honors.
She has been invited to internationally renowned festivals such as the Verbier Music Festival in Switzerland and the Prussia Cove Music Festival in the UK, and she previously served as principal violist of the Duisburger Philharmoniker / Deutsche Oper am Rhein.
Soo-Min Lee has been invited to many of Korea’s leading music festivals, including the Seoul Spring Festival, Tongyeong International Music Festival, Jeonju Vivace Festival, and Seoul International Music Festival, performing alongside world-class musicians.
She participated in the recording of violist Richard Yongjae O’Neill’s album “DUO”, released by Deutsche Grammophon (DG). In particular, “Viola, Viola” for two violas by George Benjamin (former composer-in-residence of the Berlin Philharmonic), included on the album, received high praise from the composer himself, who described it as “a superb performance with tremendous dynamics and a beautiful tone.”
In 2018, her first solo album, recorded with pianist Hyo-Sun Lim and featuring works such as sonatas by Vieuxtemps and Clarke, was released by DECCA.
She was also highly acclaimed for performing Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with violinist Suyo Park as part of the complete Mozart symphony series by the Korean Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Ralf Gothóni. In addition, she serves as Principal Viola of the One Korea Orchestra under the direction of Myung-Whun Chung.
Soo-Min Lee is also highly active as a teacher. Currently, she is an adjunct professor at the Korea National University of Arts and Hanyang University, and she is also dedicated to mentoring young musicians at Seoul National University.
