Né en 1993, Bruno Philippe étudie le violoncelle au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris avec Raphaël Pidoux et Jérôme Pernoo et intègre la classe de musique de chambre de Claire Désert. De 2014 à 2018, il étudie en tant que jeune soliste à la Kronberg Academy avec Frans Helmerson et participe aux masterclasses de David Geringas, Steven Isserliss, Gary Hoffman, Pieter Wispelwey et Clemens Hagen au Mozarteum de Salzburg.
En 2018, Bruno est nommé « Révélation Instrumentale » aux Victoires de la Musique Classique. Auparavant, il avait remporté le Troisième Grand Prix ainsi que le Prix du meilleur récital au Concours international André Navarra en 2011. En 2014, il remporte le prix Nicolas Firmenich au festival de Verbier puis le Troisième prix et le prix du public au prestigieux Concours International de l’ARD de Munich. Il reçoit également un Prix Spécial au Concours international Tchaïkovsky en juin 2015 ainsi qu’un Prix Spécial pour sa performance remarquable au Concours Feuermann à Berlin en novembre 2014. En 2015, Bruno Philippe est nommé Révélation Classique de l’ADAMI et en 2016, il remporte le Prix pour la Musique de la Fondation Safran dédié au violoncelle. En 2017, il est lauréat du concours Reine Elisabeth de Bruxelles.
Bruno Philippe se produit dans de prestigieuses salles et festivals en France (Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, Philharmonie de Paris, Auditorium du Louvre, La Grange au Lac, Festival de Radio France Montpellier-Occitanie etc.) et sur la scène internationale, notamment au Konzerthaus de Berlin, à l’Alte Oper de Francfort, au Teatro Colon à Bogota, au Bayericher Runfunk à Munich. Bruno Philippe se produit avec les meilleurs orchestres européenstels que le Radio-Sinfonie-Orchester Frankfurt sous la direction de Christoph Eschenbach, avec l’Orchestre Dijon-Bourgogne sous la direction de Gabor Takacs-Nagy, avec le Bayerische Rundfunk, le Münchener Kammerorchestrer, l’Orchestre National de Bordeaux, l’Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, l’Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo…
En musique de chambre, il a joué aux côtés de prestigieux artistes tels que Gary Hoffman, Tabea Zimmermann, Gidon Kremer, Christian Tetzlaff, David Kadouch, Renaud Capuçon, Jérôme Ducros, Tanguy de Williencourt, Antoine Tamestit, Sarah Nemtanu, Lise Berthaud, Timothy Ridout, Stephen Waarts, Kian Soltani, Christophe Coin, Jérôme Pernoo et Raphaël Pidoux. En musique baroque, il se produit aux côtés de Jean Rondeau, Thomas Dunford, Lea Desandre et est membre de l’Ensemble Jupiter.
Son premier disque consacré aux Sonates de Brahms, enregistré avec le pianiste Tanguy de Williencourt pour le label Evidence Classic, est sorti en 2015. En 2017, il rejoint le label Harmonia Mundi et sort un album Beethoven-Schubert en sonate avec Tanguy de Williencourt. En 2019, il sort deux albums consacrés à la musique russe : les sonates de Rachmaninov, Prokofiev et Miaskowsky avec les pianistes Jérôme Ducros et Tanguy de Williencourt, et la Symphonie Concertante de Prokofiev avec le Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra dirigé par Christoph Eschenbach. Son nouvel album consacré aux Suites de Bach sort au prontemps 2022 chez harmonia mundi.
Parmi les projet de la saison 2021-2022, on peut citer une résidence avec l’Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne, des débuts avec l’Orchestre Philharmonique Janáček et Christian Arming, le Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin et l’Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne avec Christoph Eschenbach, des concerts de chambre avec Antoine Tamestit à Cologne, Cédric Tiberghien au Festival Hindsgavl et une tournée aux États-Unis avec l’Ensemble Jupiter – y compris une première au Carnegie Hall.
Born in 1993, Bruno Philippe studied the cello at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, with Raphaël Pidoux and Jérôme Pernoo, and chamber music with Claire Désert. From 2014- 2018, he studied as a young soloist at the Kronberg Academy with Frans Helmerson and participated in masterclasses given by David Geringas, Steven Isserlis, Gary Hoffman, Pieter Wispelwey and Clemens Hagen at the Salzburg Mozarteum.
In 2018, Bruno Philippe was named ‘Instrumental Revelation’ at the Victoires de la Musique Classique. Previously, he had won the Third Grand Prix and the Prize for Best Recital at the André Navarra International Competition in 2011. In 2014, he won the Nicolas Firmenich Prize at the Verbier Festival and then the Third Prize and the Audience Prize at the prestigious ARD International
Competition in Munich. He also received “Special Prizes” at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in June 2015 and the Feuermann Competition in Berlin in November 2014. In 2015, Bruno was named “Classical Revelation of ADAMI” and in 2016, he won the Prix pour la Musique de la Fondation Safran for the cello. In 2017 he was a laureate of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, Brussels.
Bruno Philippe has appeared in prestigious venues and festivals in France (Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, Philharmonie de Paris, Auditorium du Louvre, La Grange au Lac, Festival de Radio France Montpellier-Occitanie etc.) and on the international scene, including the Berlin Konzerthaus, Alte Oper, Frankfurt, Teatro Colón, Bogotá and Bavarian Radio, Munich. His first CD, devoted to Brahms’ Sonatas with Tanguy de Williencourt, was released in 2015 on the Evidence Classic label. In 2017, he joined harmonia mundi with a recording of works by Beethoven and Schubert. In 2019, he recorded two albums dedicated to Russian music: Sonatas by Prokofiev, Miaskowsky and Rachmaninov with pianists Jérôme Ducros and Tanguy de Williencourt, and Prokofiev Sinfonia Concertante with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Christoph Eschenbach. In spring 2022 his latest album, Bach Cello Suites, will be released.
2021-2022 season highlights include a residency with Orchestre Symphonique de Bretagne, debut performances with the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra and Christian Arming, Konzerthaus Orchester Berlin and Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne with Christoph Eschenbach and chamber concerts with Antoine Tamestit in Köln, Cédric Tiberghien at the Hindsgavl Festival and a tour to the USA with Ensemble Jupiter – including a Carnegie Hall debut.
