Maja Rome is a Slovenian violist and pedagogue. She graduated from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, where she also completed her postgraduate studies with renowned slovenian violist Mile Kosi. To further her education, she attended the HfM Detmold, where she studied with Diemut Poppen. She has also participated masterclasses with musicians such as Hariolf Schlichtig and Wolfram Christ.
From 2006 to 2020, she worked as principal violist of the Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra and has been a member of the Slovenian Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra since the beginning of her professional career.
Chamber music plays very important role in her artistic work. She has performed in ensembles including Slovenian Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Dissonance, Ensemble MD7. Collaborations have brought her to perform at concert cycles and festivals such as Festival Ljubljana, Festival Maribor, Festival Slowind, New Music Forum, Ochrid Summer Festival, Sozvocje svetov.
As a soloist she has performed with Slovenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Slovenian Philharmonic String Chamber Orchestra and Ensemble Dissonance. She is also dedicated to promoting contemporary Slovenian music and regularly premiering works by renowed Slovenian composers.
Since 2020 she has held a teaching position at Academy of Music in Ljubljana and occasionally lectures at Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen and the Academy of Music in Zagreb. She also collaborates with the Jeunesses Musicales of Slovenia and regularly lectures at their summer camps. Sharing experience with younger generations of musicians has become increasingly important part of her work, which she deeply enjoys.
