Ernestine Stoop est née à Utrecht et a commencé ses études de harpe à onze ans. Elle les a achevées au Sweelinck Conservatorium à Amsterdam avec Edward Witsenburg et a encore étudié pendant deux ans à Paris avec le légendaire Pierre Jamet, l’autorité en ce qui concerne Debussy, qui a même travaillé avec le compositeur à ses compositions pour harpe.
Ensuite Ernestine Stoop a fait des études de musique de chamber à Salzburg avec le violinist Sandor Végh.
Après avoir joué pendant onze ans dans les Orchestres de la Radio Hollandaises, elle se consacre aux oeuvres en soliste, à la musique de chambre et à enseigner.
Elle et Sylvain Blassel sont professeurs de harpe au Conservatoire Royale à La Haye (www.koncon.nl)
Elle fait partie du Nieuw Ensemble (www.nieuw-ensemble.nl), Asko|Schönberg (www.askoschoenberg.nl) et Atlas Ensemble (partie du Nieuw Ensemble)
Elle s’est produite en soliste avec des chefs d’orchestre tels que Hans Vonk, Ernest Bour, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Ed Spanjaard et Reinbert de Leeuw.
Elle s’intéresse autant au répertoire classique qu’au répertoire contemporain et a étroitement collaboré avec des artistes de pop-musiques, musique du monde, etc (e.g. Toots Tielemans et Toumani Diabaté)
En outre, elle échangait fréquemment des idées avec compositeurs tells que Mauricio Kagel, Isang Yun, Elliott Carter, Theo Loevendie, Louis Andriessen, Guus Janssen, Pierre Boulez, Franco Donatoni et György Ligeti à propos de leurs oeuvres, qu’elle est souvent le première au monde à exécuter.
En 1995 et 2001 Ernestine Stoop était directeur artistique du troisième et cinqième Symposium Européenne de la harpe aux Pays-Bas
En 2008 elle était présidente du Dixième Congrès Mondiale de la harpe à Amsterdam.
En 2012 est sorti un cd avec Harpduo Ravel du cycle ‘Miroirs’ de Maurice Ravel, qui est musique qu’elle a adaptée pour deux harpes.
Elle a également arrange ‘On an overgrown path’ by Leos Janacek pour flute, flute alto, harpe et violoncelle.

Ernestine Stoop was born in Utrecht and began studying harp, at the age of eleven, with Titia Tieman-van der Laars. She earned her solo diploma in 1980, studying with Edward Witsenburg at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam. She then studied for two years with the legendary harpist Pierre Jamet, the authority on the works of Claude Debussy; he worked with the composer himself on the pieces written for harp. Ernestine Stoop studied chamber music in Salzburg with the violinist Sandor Végh.
After playing for 11 years with the Radio Filharmonic Orchestra, she is now dedicating herself fully to playing as a soloist, chamber music (HarpDuo Rave land Trio Janacek) and teaching. She is a member of the Nieuw Ensemble, Atlas Ensemble and Asko|Schönberg.
Both she and Sylvain Blassel are the harp-professors at the Royal College of Music in the Hague
As a soloist she performed with such conductors as Hans Vonk, Ernest Bour, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, David Porcelijn, Ed Spanjaard, Reinbert de Leeuw, Rogier van Otterloo and James Last. She recorded classical as well as contemporary music. She worked closely with with well-known artists like Mathile Santing and Toots Tielemans and participated in theater- and film productions (e.g. with the Malinese Kora player Toumani Diabate) She has also enjoyed numerous and productive sessions with such composers as Mauricio Kagel, Isang Yun, Stockhausen, Elliott Carter, Louis Andriessen, Franco Donatoni, Unsuk Chin, Tan Dun, Guo Wenjing, Theo Loevendie and Guus Janssen preparing their compositions for worlds first performances.
She initiated the 3rd and 5th European Harp Symposia (1995 and 2001) in Amsterdam and gave the first performance of Guo Wenjing’s ‘Concerto for harp and lyric soprano’ in Amsterdam 2001. Recently a real Carillo-harp has been made for her. This is a unique 16th tone instrument designed by Juan Carrillo (Mexican composer) early 20th century.
Ernestine has been the artistic director of the prestigeous 10th World Harp Congress 2008, which took place in Amsterdam in the ‘MuziekGebouw aan ‘t IJ’.

In 2012 a cd has been released with the whole cycle “Miroirs” by Maurice Ravel, who’s music she adapted for two harps, which was very enthusiastically received.
She also arranged ‘On an overgrown Path’ by Leos Janacek for flute/alto flute, harp & cello. The cd and music were released in 2018.
